A safety valve is an automatic device with an inlet and an outlet, designed to prevent a system and/or equipment containing liquids or gases/vapours from being subjected to dangerous pressure.
When the set pressure is reached, the valve opens and discharges to atmosphere, preventing system pressure from reaching levels that could be dangerous for the generator and the components installed in the system.
TGE valves are safety accessories as defined in Article 2 of Directive 2014/68/EU.

Advantages
Safety valves are the final means of protecting equipment and the people working in contact with it if all other installed control devices fail.
The difference between opening pressure and closing pressure is generally between 4% and 7% of the opening value. The reseating pressure can be adjusted during calibration and is identified as the blowdown value.

Maintenance
Safety valves must be checked periodically to ensure that they operate according to specifications. In particular, the disc and nozzle surfaces must be inspected for integrity; if necessary, they must be reconditioned to restore any imperfect sealing.
